Tarrafal is reachable by "aluguer" from Porto Novo, leaving around 1 p.m. Ask around for the drivers Julin or Curcino at the ferry or later in town. The way to us is slow, dusty and full of bumps and curves, but the impressions in the dry highlands as well as the arrival in Tarrafal are ample reward. Return trip to Porto Novo at 5 a.m.. 700 CVE per person each way. A private "taxi" can also be hired for aprox. 10.000 CVE. A ride with a fishing boat, directly to or from Mindelo, can occasionally be arranged.
