The Village
| On the west side of Santo Antão lies the peaceful, sleepy village of Tarrafal. This green oasis is watered by mountain springs, and the long, pristine, black sand beach surrounds a bay rich in sea life. The villagers live primarily from agriculture and fishing. There are a few small shops and bars, a school, a church, and a health center. The high mountains shelter the village from strong winds, providing an especially comfortable microclimate. |
